Gospel Revisited Project returns to Town & Symphony Hall.

Gospel Revisited Project (GRP) returns to Birmingham’s Town & Symphony Hall with a celebration of soulful standards, honouring the scores of female lyricists this summer.

Ray Prince MMus, PgDip and Jonathan Silk present ‘Women In Gospel’ on Saturday 4th June from 7.30pm, an orchestral concert revisiting and reimagining classics from important gospel female pioneers, including Mahalia Jackson (1911 – 1972), who is often referred to as “The Queen of Gospel” and was heralded internationally as a singer and civil rights activist.

Commenting on the new concert, Ray Prince MMus, PgDip, said, “After the last two years of isolation, challenge and grief, it feels wonderful to be able to present this body of work to audiences.

“Gospel music is the original soul music and I know that the audience will feel every beat, every note, every bar of this work, because gospel has the ability to do that under normal circumstances. This concert will be a magnificent, emotional and jubilant return to Town & Symphony Hall.

“We intend to use the scores to heal and to rejoice. I cannot wait to play my heart out with my fellow musicians, celebrating these wonderful women of gospel with soulful musical knowledge, talent and skill. It will certainly be a night to remember.”

The GRP Big Band Orchestra will revive popular songs with scores influenced by gospel and jazz, composed by innovators including Albertina Walker, Shirley Caesar, Tramaine Hawkins, Dannibelle Hall and Sandra Crouch.

Perfect for lovers of gospel, jazz and soulful, spiritual music, tickets are on sale now at B:MUSIC.
